Summer Camp Kitchen Positions
HEAD CHEF... Our Head Chefs are our most important positions, and thus they are people we hire with great care. We require a variety of skills including mathematical food quantity calculations, inventory management, staff management from a variety of positions and backgrounds, good interpersonal skills for dealing with clients, parents, and children, intricate knowledge of special diet needs, and many more. It is a challenging position both mentally and physically, but can be the most rewarding as well. Compensation: $900 to $1000 per week with earned bonus available. Experience 5 years minimum as chef and sous chef.
SOUS CHEF... The Sous Chef works alongside the Head Chef on food preparation and production. They assist with staff training and supervision, particularly on the Chef's day off, when the Sous Chef is responsible for overseeing the entire kitchen operation. Knowledge of homemade soups and sauces, excellent knife skills, supervisory skills and a good work ethic are expected. Compensation: $550 to 650 per week ($490-$590/week + $60/week bonus upon completion of contract). Experience 5 years minimum as sous chef or cook.
BAKER... The Baker is responsible for the preparation and production of all baked goods and desserts for the camp. This includes homemade breads, buns, cakes, cookies, muffins, squares, etc. all made from scratch. In smaller camps, the position also involves helping with basic food preparation and service at mealtimes. A good work ethic, the ability to learn quickly, independent work capabilities, and physical strength are required. Compensation: $550 to 650 per week ($490-$590/week + $60/week bonus upon completion of contract). Experience 2 years minimum as baker or relevant schooling.
COOK... The Cook works on food production, preparation, and service-including making soups, vegetable preparation, grillwork and some cooking of meats. Knowledge of vegetable preparation, grilling, good knife skills, and a good work ethic are expected. Compensation: $430 per week ($370/week + $60/week bonus upon completion of contract). Experience 2 years minimum as cook.
DISHWASHER/KITCHEN HELPERS Dishwashers are responsible for washing all of the dishes, pots, pans and various kitchen utensils. This position is often combined with Kitchen Helper, which involves helping in the kitchen with basic food preparation, dining room set-up, cleaning, and service at mealtimes. A good work ethic, the ability to learn quickly, physical strength, and good interpersonal skills are required. Compensation: $400 per week ($340/week + $60/week bonus upon completion of contract). No experience required.
